About Larry Franks
Larry Franks is a Senior Petroleum Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with over 25 years experience with projects in Australia, North America, Central America and the Middle East.
- He began his career working for several years with AAR Limited on the Roma and Denison Trough development areas.
- He was recruited to Magellan Petroleum where he was instrumental in the appraisal, quantification and development of the Palm Valley gas project and the Mereenie Oil Field in the Northern Territory of Australia and rose to Operations Manager in the company.
- After 24 years service to consult on technical projects. He left Magellan in 2007
His career has specialised in all aspects of low permeability, naturally fractured reservoirs and in the underbalanced method of drilling, in particular air drilling. This career afforded him a wide range of practical experience in operational and project management aspects of gas and oil production from the design and drilling of wells, the construction of plant and equipment to the operation, safety and maintenance of plant and facilities.
This experience also includes the technical analysis of reservoirs with considerable experience in welltest analysis, numerical simulation and the general quantification of reserves and he has authored several technical papers on these topics. He also has extensive field experience and holds a current IADC Well Control Certificate. He is a member of PESA and SPE and for 10 years was an industry representative in the (APPEA) organization and assisted in the development of operating guidelines and standards for the Australian oil industry.

Capability Statement
My technical expertise is essentially the appraisal and development section of an Australian Oil and Gas explorer and producer. This ensures that I can provide the workings of and Oil and gas production operation and have a focus on maximising financial returns and working within tight budgets. Myself and my associates have the capability and the experience of managing both small and large scale projects from the initial exploration period, through all phases of development to production and power generation.
I have particular expertise in the evaluation and development of naturally fractured reservoirs, Coal Bed Methane fields, unconventional reservoirs and in the evaluation and rationalization of existing fields and under-balanced drilling operations all necessary for the particular reservoir type. For the last four years the members of this group have worked as independent consultants through a major consulting company in Australia. I am also a senior consultant for MBA Petroleum Consultants (www.mbapetcon.com.au). MBA has been at the leading edge of the Coal Seam Gas industry in Australia and operates seismic programs, geological and drilling programs for their clients. MBA are currently operating the drilling of over 20 wells for a range of client companies in Australia. MBA has operated both 2D and 3D seismic acquisition surveys in Australia and have processed the seismic, mapped the structures, undertake the geologic studies and finally design and perform the drilling programs for clients
